Police: Letgo seller assaulted, robbed of iPhones in Dayton

A man reported to police he was assaulted and robbed after arranging a meeting through the website Letgo to sell two iPhones.

The 20-year-old victim met the thief Friday afternoon in the parking lot at Kroger, 1024 S. Smithville Road, and invited him into his vehicle so he could inspect the iPhone 6 phones, according to the Dayton police report.

The victim told police he had several text conversations with the unknown male prior to the meeting, according to the report.

When he had both iPhones in his hand, the thief tried to quickly get out of the vehicle, and when the victim grabbed his arm, the thief struck him several times and broke free, according to the report.

Police said the victim ran after the thief and lost his shoes in the process, injuring his feet. The victim told police he backed off during the chase when the thief yelled, “You better quit chasing me or my bro will shoot you,” according to the report.

The devices were valued at $1,200, according to the report.

Police said the victim was taken to Miami Valley Hospital for treatment.
