1 of 3 in custody who flee traffic stop then crash into parked cars in Vandalia

One of three people who ran from a stolen car tonight that crashed into three parked vehicles as they fled a traffic stop is in custody.

A Vandalia police officer spotted a car stolen earlier from Good Year on U.S. 40 and around 8:30 p.m. activated the cruiser’s lights when the car sped away. The officer did not pursue the vehicle, but it later crashed after turning onto Kenbrook Drive, police said.

The stolen car crashed into three parked cars; two were in the street and one in a driveway, police said.

No one was injured, but three people in the car ran.

Police caught one person, but it’s not clear whether the man was the driver or a passenger. Two others ran across Interstate 70, and one was clipped by a vehicle’s mirror but kept running. A K-9 unsuccessfully tracked the pair.

Police are looking for an unknown number of people who reportedly ran from a vehicle that crashed on Kenbrook Drive in Vandalia during an apparent pursuit that may have involved police.

We’re working to learn what led to the crash and subsequent search. The situation has been developing since about 8:30 p.m.

We’re hearing that police have been searching an area that includes I-75, the neighborhood off Kenbrook and Circleview drives.
