Man destroys Fifth Third Bank ATM in Dayton during attempted theft

A man spent nearly an hour attempting to break into an ATM to take cash before he gave up and left empty-handed, according to Dayton police.

Officers investigated the smashed ATM at the Fifth Third Bank branch at 3830 Linden Avenue Thursday morning.

Investigators said the suspect, described only as a man, approached the ATM and spent 58 minutes destroying it to steal cash.

The man was unsuccessful and fled the scene without any cash, police said.

Officers said multiple surveillance cameras caught images of the suspect during the crime. Those photos however were not immediately available from officers.
