Man killed in Dayton shooting identified, police investigating

A man killed in a deadly shooting Friday morning on Victor Avenue in Dayton has been identified.

The cause and manner of death for Glenn E. Phillips, 51, of Dayton, has not been determined, according to Montgomery County Coroner Dr. Kent Harshbarger.

Crews responded to the 100 block of Victor Avenue around 4:37 a.m. on a reported shooting.

Police found a man at the scene with an apparent gunshot wound to his upper torso, said Sgt. Creigee S. Coleman.

While investigating, they could not find any witnesses in the area.

A homicide unit was called to the area and took over the scene.

During the investigation, another man with an apparent gunshot wound to his left hand showed up, said Coleman.

It was not clear if he was connected to the first victim.

More details about either of the victims are not available at this time.

Dayton police are continuing to investigate, but Coleman asked that anyone with information please contact police or Miami Valley Crime Stoppers.

“A person lost their life at the hands of gunfire and we need to find out exactly so the family can have closure,” he said.

“We need someone to call Crime Stoppers, call the Dayton Police Department and let us know exactly what you saw and what time you saw something,” Coleman said. “If you saw any cars, vehicle, any person, people of interest that just seem out of the ordinary. Anybody that have any cameras going in this area...We want to solve this crime so we can find the person who did this.”
