Troopers said Brandon Taggart, 21, of New Paris, was driving a 1999 silver Mazda and was traveling southbound on Freed Road.
Taggart failed to negotiate a curve, spun out of control, drove off the east side of the road and struck a tree, troopers said.
According to OSP, Taggart was taken to Reid Hospital in Richmond, Ind., with life-threatening injuries. He was later transferred to Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis.
The cause of the crash and alcohol involvement remains under investigation.
