UD president's wife gets job offer at UK

DAYTON — University of Dayton President Daniel J. Curran said his wife Claire Renzetti’s new position at the University of Kentucky will not impact his tenure at the university.

“It really is the ideal situation for us,” Curran said. “It really is the right platform for her. I couldn’t be more excited.”

Renzetti was named to an endowed chair of Studies on Violence Against Women and a sociology professor in June. Her position begins Aug. 16, according to a UK news release. She will be one of six chairs in the school’s effort to be at the forefront of researching violence against women.

Renzetti currently teaches sociology at UD and has published and edited 16 books.

Curran said he will remain in Dayton while his wife lives during the week at UK and returns home for weekends. The two have lived apart before, he said; when Curran first took the post at UD, Renzetti stayed in Pennsylvania for three years.

In January, UD trustees extended Curran’s contract through June 2015. He came to the university in 2002 as its 18th president and lay leader and has seen enrollment, research and the campus grow during his tenure.

Since 2005 UD has nearly doubled in size under Curran’s leadership, which he said positions the school for generations to come.
