Riverside’s Hometown Holiday set for Nov. 17

The fourth annual Hometown Holiday in Riverside is set for 4 to 8 p.m. on Nov. 17.

The event will be held in the Airway Shopping Center, 4902 Airway Road.

“This came about because we have such community-focused organizations that give back to the community,” said Lynn Domescik, membership director for Riverside Area Chamber of Commerce. “We were trying to get one event that all these organizations could come together and work for the community. Four years ago this was an idea that we had and it has been very popular.”

Jay Keaton, operations manager for the city’s service department, is being honored as this year’s “Christmas Star.” Keaton and his family will be the first riders in the horse-drawn carriage.

Santa will arrive at 4 p.m. via a fire truck. Donations will be accepted for photos with Santa, as well as a horse-drawn carriage rides.

Face painting and entertainment will be available. Fire trucks, police cars and tow trucks will also be open for kids to explore. The courtyard Christmas tree lighting will be held at 6 p.m.

“This is a chance for the community to come together and see what Riverside is all about,” Domescik said. “We have many generous businesses. This is not about making money; this is about businesses giving back.”

Visitors are encouraged to bring a nonperishable food item to help stock the Riverside Food Pantry.

This year’s sponsors are the Riverside Area Chamber of Commerce, Riverside Jaycees, Mad River Lions Club, Riverside Historical Society, Riverside Seniors, American Legion Post 776 and VFW Post 657.
