The driver noticed the stopped bus “at the last minute” and swerved to the right to avoid the bus and stopped traffic, Sgt. Dallas Root of the Dayton Post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol told this news outlet. The car overturned and ended up on its top after it crashed into a ditch.
The woman, who was the only occupant in the car, was not wearing a seat belt and was ejected during the crash, Root said.
She was transported by a CareFlight medical helicopter and is in critical condition, state troopers said.
Additional factors in the crash were unknown and still under investigation.
The crash initially blocked both directions of state Route 49, however all lanes reopened around 8 a.m.
