Now, funds left over from the memorial have created the Girl Scout Memorial Fund, a scholarship program for a graduating senior.
The fund is part of the Beavercreek Education Foundation, which is, in turn, part of the Greene Giving Foundation.
According to Candy Prystaloski, a member of Troop 133, it’s a way to honor the girls and leaders. “The main thing,” said Prystaloski, “is that they are not forgotten.”
The victims were Anne North, Paulnetta Randall, Connie LaPrise, Patricia Lipinski, Cynthia Jean Moorman, Linda Ellen Ward, Sharon White, and Anna Wilvert; the leaders were Jeanette Randall, mother of Paulnetta Randall, and Lucille White, mother of Sharon White. To qualify for the scholarship, a graduating senior must be involved with the Girl Scouts, have a GPA of 3.0 or higher, and require financial aid.
It is the hope of Prystaloski and Annette Poth, the Beavercreek Education Foundation Scholarship chairwoman, to one day see the Girl Scout Memorial Fund self-sustaining. VFW Post 8312 has donated $500 each year; $1,000 has been donated by benefactors, individuals and businesses; and a $1,000 anonymous donation has been made for matching funds.
