School delays or closings

With winter weather around the corner, Troy City Schools’ Superintendent Eric Herman issued a reminder to parents to check for possible school delays and closings during inclement weather.

The first day bad weather strikes each school year, “it’s amazing the number of phone calls we receive,” Herman told the Board of Education Oct. 14.

He reminded parents to watch for possible delays or closings by checking the radio, TV stations or Web sites.

The decision to delay or close school is not done without driving the roads and checking with other districts up and down the interstate, he said.

He tries not to close early because of weather, but that is needed if bad weather occurs during the day, he said. If he has to choose between buses on rural roads trying to get children home in the dark versus closing early to get everyone home, closing will be the choice, Herman said.
