School district upgrades handheld radios

Northmont City Schools District recently upgraded all its handheld radios with a dedicated radio frequency that puts the radio user in direct contact with the City of Englewood’s regional dispatch center.

The change was made possible because of some reimbursement funds from an Ohio’s School Security Grant, according to Englewood Police Sgt. Mike Lang and Jenny Wood, school district spokeswoman.

The funding allowed the district to do a radio frequency re-banding of 260 two-way radios, which the district uses for daily building operations, student arrivals and dismissals, recess supervision and for emergencies.
