3 ‘Schools of Promise’ in Sidney

SIDNEY — The Ohio Department of Education has again named two elementary schools in the Sidney City School District “Schools of Promise.”

Central and Longfellow elementary schools were recently recognized as State Superintendent Schools of Promise for the 2008-09 school year by Superintendent of Public Instruction Debra Delisle.

Emerson Elementary School also received the honor of School of Promise this year for the first time.

The honor of School of Promise is based on Central Elementary’s high test scores in mathematics and reading. Longfellow and Emerson elementary also received the honor for their high scores in reading and mathematics. Longfellow, Emerson and Central elementary schools are three of 134 schools throughout the state of Ohio who received this award.

“We are incredibly honored to receive such a noteworthy award from the Ohio Department of Education,” said Central, Emerson and Longfellow principals Hugh Aukerman, Dee Mullins and Ken Miller in a joint statement. “This speaks highly to the outstanding teachers, parents, students and many volunteers in our schools who worked hard to achieve such a great honor.”

It is the third consecutive year Central and Longfellow elementary have received the honor.
