2 semis in accident on I-75; load of steel coils spilled

DAYTON — Traffic on Interstate 75 was halted for about three and a half hours after a late night accident at the Ohio 4 junction.

The highway was opened back up at around 3:30 a.m., a Dayton police dispatcher said Friday, Feb. 5.

An accident involving two tractor trailers left one on its side and a load of steel coils on the highway just south of the Interstate 75 and Ohio 4 junction in the southbound lanes, Dayton police reported Thursday night, Feb. 4.

A Dayton police officer told dispatchers at 11:54 p.m., “It’s going to be a huge operation out here.”

An officer said no injuries were involved and WHIO-TV reports said witnesses reported the trucks were driving too fast and side-swiped one another.

Police accessed the scene by driving the wrong way up the I-75/North Main Street exit ramp. The highway in this area is under extensive reconstruction under a project to widen I-75 and eliminate the so-called “Malfunction Junction” at I-75 and Ohio 4.
