Serious crash blocks North Street in Springfield

It took nearly a half hour to cut a driver free after he crashed his car into a utility pole.

The crash shut down North Street in Springfield just west of Race Street for nearly an  hour. The driver was traveling west on North Street when he struck the pole and became trapped in side the wreckage. The driver was taken by ambulance to Springfield Regional Medical Center and then taken by CareFlight to Miami Valley Hospital in Dayton.

The man’s name, age, hometown and condition were not released. Springfield police said the crash remains under investigation.

Crews are working to cut a driver out of a car this afternoon after the driver slammed into a utility pole.

The crash happened around 4:20 p.m. on North Street (U.S. 40), which is shut down in Springfield.

CareFlight has been called for the driver, and will meet the patient at Springfield Regional Medical Center once he is freed from the wreckage, according to crews at the scene.
