Shriek like a banshee, win a trip for 2 to LA

Shriek like a banshee and you just might earn yourself passes to ride Kings Island's newest thrill ride, a trip to Los Angeles and $1,000 cash.

The "Scream like a Banshee" competition begins this Friday and will continue every Friday and Saturday night right through to the finals on Saturday, Oct. 26. The contest pays homage to the park's thrill ride, which is expected to ready for riders in April.

Park goers can sign up in Action Zone near the Banshee construction site to compete head-to-head with the loudest shrieks you will ever hear. A decibel reader determines the winner each round.

Prizes each round include 2014 Banshee Preview Passes to be among the first to ride the longest inverted roller coaster and advancement to the finals. The grand prize winner gets a trip for two to Los Angeles, Calif., tickets to Knott's Berry Farm and $1,000.

Registration opens at 6 p.m. on a first-come, first-served basis. Scream times are 8 p.m., 9 p.m. and 11 p.m.

Contestants must be 18 or older.

Construction of the world's longest inverted roller coaster is continuing. Columns and pieces of track for the ride's 167-foot tall lift hill can now be seen from outside the park. Riders will scream their way through 4,124 feet of track and seven inversions at speeds up to 68 mph.
