CARLISLE — Antioch Shriners will be the main attraction at the City of Carlisle’s Railroad Days Festival parade Saturday morning, Aug. 15.
Festivities start chugging along at 4 p.m. Friday, Aug. 14, for Carlisle’s annual Railroad Days.
At the parade 10 a.m. Saturday, the Shriners, a fraternity associated with Masons, are bringing about 26 vehicles, said Carry Branson, councilwoman and parade organizer. This is the first time the organization has brought so many cars. She also said the parade features about 40 participants in total and is themed Music of America.
“It’s a good time to support the kids of the community. I also think it’ll be a good show for the adults because of the Shriners,” Branson said.
The parade will start at Roscoe Roof Park, head to Park Avenue, turn on Central Avenue and end on Jamaica Road, said Branson. Charles Wiggins, a Carlisle High School teacher, is grand marshal.
Greg Wallace, fire chief and key festival organizer, said there’s also live music Friday and throughout the day Saturday on festival grounds at the middle school on Fairview Avenue. Spectators will see raffles and local nonprofit food vendors, such as athletic boosters and school groups, he said.
And as Carlisle’s only festival, Wallace said it’s well attended.
“Basically, it’s really designed to help the local nonprofits raise funds for their groups and organizations,” Wallace said.
