Some local Time Warner customers need to re-scan channels

Local Time Warner Cable customers may need to re-scan channels on their TVs due to a system switch to a centralized video and digital processing center in Columbus, said Michael Pedelty, a spokesman for the company.

Customers without cable or digital boxes using TVs made in 2005 or later will have to re-scan if they are experiencing difficulty, Pedelty said.

“It is the thing that you do when you first buy a TV,” Pedelty said in explaining channel scanning. “It takes a few minutes and everything will be put in place.”

Those with questions on how to re-scan channels should follow the instructions in their TV user manual.

Most impacted customers use cables connected directly between their TVs and the wall.

Time Warner is switching the source of signals provided to customers in Ohio, Wisconsin, Indiana, Kentucky and Western Pennsylvania to the Columbus facility. Impacted customers include customers in the Dayton area as well as Butler County.

Miami Valley customers were switched Tuesday morning.

“There is a significant customer benefit in doing this. We do this to offer the latest in technology,” Pedelty said.

He said local customers will receive improved picture, sound and reliability.

Pedelty said about 75 percent of customers use a cable box. A small percentage of the Time Warner customers that remain have TVs made after 2005. Time Warner has 2.2 million customers in Ohio.

“The vast majority of customers will see no change, no difference,” he said.
