Springfield bible school students honor police officers

Scripture Safari Vacation Bible School presented Springfield Police Officers with homemade desserts and a signed card on Friday to thank them for their decades of continued support.

Each year, Springfield officers create a temporary crosswalk to ensure that children and parents can safely cross East High Street to enter St. Raphael Catholic Church, where the vacation bible school is held. This year, Scripture Safari Vacation Bible School celebrates their 30-year anniversary.

“We don’t take (the officers) for granted,” St. Raphael Deacon Norman Horstman said. He runs the program.

“The police officers have been outstanding,” Horstman said. “And we like that young people are interacting with police officers.”

During the short award ceremony Friday morning, Scripture Safari students thanked the Springfield officers with a dedicated song.

“With the officers here, you feel safe and you are safe,” Scripture Safari student Mariah Sweeney said.
