Springfield health expo returns to downtown

A free local health expo that gives families access to resources is coming back downtown for the fourth year, but this time with a new new name.

The Community Health Foundation’s Health Expo ‘17 will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. Oct. 3 at the Clark State Community College Hollenbeck Bayley Creative Arts and Conference Center, 275 S. Limestone St.

The event was previously known as Healthy Families. The interactive health and wellness expo will show the community different ways to get healthy, Project Coordinator Diane Van Auker said. The event is for people of all ages, she said.

“We thought it sounded more fun, interactive and family friendly,” Van Auker said.

The event is important because the community has been working hard to move the needle when it comes to local health, she said.

“We have some challenges,” she said. “Part of solving those challenges is keeping people informed about how to get healthy, stay healthy and do preventative health kinds of activities. We’re offering them that opportunity.”

The expo includes activities, resources and fitness demonstrations for people to stay active. It will also include health screenings such as blood pressure, blood sugar, oral health, skin cancer and feet, Van Auker said.

“We’re expecting a really robust event with a lot of people,” she said.

Mercy Health’s mobile mammography unit will be available for screenings and the Clark County Combined Health District will offer flu shots. The event will also include a family photo booth. No registration is required, she said.

The event is still recruiting exhibitors, Van Auker said. For more information on how to become an exhibitor, call Joan Elder at 937-523-7007 or jelder@mercy.com.
