Springfield is known for its local, homegrown musical talent and Springfield native RaShawn Truss continues to make that adage true.

Truss is one of five men nominated by the Kingdom Image Awards for Best Male Vocalist.

The Kingdom Image Awards honors gospel artists from around the country for their vocal efforts, as well as the impact made within the various communities.

“Being nominated means a lot to me because it was something unexpected,” Truss said. “Although I am not used to this amount of limelight, I know the impact just being nominated has and will continue to have for the city of Springfield.”

Truss has been involved with music since an early age, starting when he was 8 years old and participating in musicals and talent shows while attending Perrin Woods Elementary School. As he matured, he ventured in to different genres of music, but eventually found his calling through gospel music in 2007. In 2012 he became a minister.

Truss is the only nominee from Springfield. His mother is Wanda Truss, a Springfield City School District board member.
