What: Decoy Art Studio, 1277 North Fairfield Road, Beavercreek
What the business does: Decoy Art Studio offers art classes for all age groups and levels with an emphasis on creativity. After school and Saturday art classes are offered for children and adults along with party packages that include pizza, cake and crafts. Adult team building classes are also offered along with wine and art sessions.
What makes the business stand out: Students can obtain a comprehensive art education in hands-on classes that encourage experimentation in many different mediums. All materials are provided so that children can be dropped off after school without having to fetch any supplies.
With group activities that span all age groups, owner and artist Tabitha Peters-Guidone employs instructors with specialties in areas like painting and charcoal drawing.
How the business started: Peters-Guidone is a 2000 Beavercreek High School graduate, who studied art education at Wright State University with the intent of teaching until she realized that schools nationwide were cutting art programs out of the curriculum. Instead, she earned a degree in Organizational Leadership, so that she would have the business and leadership skills to organize and teach art classes in a studio of her own. She opened Decoy Art Boutique and Studio six months ago after she and her husband, Mike Guidone, owner of Monkey Bones Tattoo in Beavercreek, closed a gallery that was a community collaborative providing exhibition space for local arts on Front Street in Dayton. Since opening the studio, Peters-Guidone has experienced tremendous growth and has already made plans to expand her class schedule.
Customer comment: “Decoy Art Studio offers a wide range of art classes for both children and adults,” writes Jesy Kessel-Anderson. “The kid’s classes are fun and engaging. They learn about Picasso, Lichtenstein, Monet, and more.”
There is also a Decoy Boutique that used to be in the store, but recently moved to The [Five Rivers MetroPark PNC] 2nd Street Market. It sells handmade items by local artists like soaps, pottery, bags and photography.”
