Smoke from fireworks and the heat could exasperate asthma symptoms today.

Fireworks can increase pollution in the air by up to 42 percent, according to the National Oceanic and Atmosphere Association.

According to health experts, those with asthma issues can still enjoy fireworks, but it’s best to watch from a distance to avoid inhaling too much smoke.

In Kettering, where fireworks are scheduled for tonight, officials said they have extra medical staff on standby in case something has breathing problems due to asthma or the intense heat.

“We will be prepared today because we are anticipating issues because of the extreme heat,” said Bill Ford, Kettering Fire Department Fire Marshall. “I think a lot of the spectators will come to the event later in the evening rather than being out here for the whole duration of it.”
