RECREATION DIANA BLOWERS
What better way to spend a summer evening than with a free concert or movie.
As has been the tradition for several years, the City of Beavercreek Parks, Recreation and Culture Department will be hosting a concert series and several movie nights at the city’s Dominick Lofino Park located at 640 Grange Hall Road, right next to the Beavercreek YMCA. Other than a couple of park benches, there is no seating provided.
“We’ve been running concerts for over 10 years. This is the second summer for movies. We have sponsors for our movies and concerts to help defray our costs,” said Kim Farrell, the city’s recreation program supervisor.
“We hope to have concessions this year. Popcorn will be available for purchase at the movies,” she said.
The monthly family movie nights, which begin at dusk, will include “Madagascar 2: Escape to Africa” on June 25, “Curious George” on July 30 and “Up” on August 27.
The weekly concerts begin at 7 p.m. and usually last about an hour. he featured artists will be:
• July 11: Double Play: two-man musical group; plays a variety of music, including big band, country, jazz, ’50s and ’60s.
• July 18: Danny Voris and Douglas Blue Feather: high energy show filled with driving rhythms and upbeat melodic music. Combines the modern sounds of today with the beauty of the ancient Native American flute.
