The family owns a number of gas stations and convenience stores in the region and detectives believe the slaying of Amandeep came after the men argued over money, authorities said.
Butler County Sheriff’s Lt. Mike Craft said Amandeep Singh’s daughters, ages 10 and 6, were in the car when he pulled into the residence where he and his cousin argued.
The 10-year-old said the men they were arguing about money and saw Jagdeep Singh shoot his cousin.
“She knew who he (Jagdeep) was,” Craft said . But the girl did not know his full name.
During an 11-hour investigation, detectives were able to secure enough evidence to obtain a murder warrant for Jagdeep Singh through Butler County Area II Court. The suspect admitted to shooting Amandeep Singh during a recorded call from a source in northern Ohio, Craft said.
Detectives were concerned Jagdeep Singh, who had a Canadian passport, may try to leave the country and alerted federal immigration officials and border patrol at the U.S./Canadian border.
Jagdeep Singh was tracked to a hotel room in Monroe County, Mich., which was surrounded by law enforcement officers from Michigan and Butler County.
Without the knowledge of law enforcement surrounding the hotel, he ordered a pizza which was delivered to the room.
“We think he saw the officers surrounding the place when the pizza was delivered,” Craft said. “They heard a shot soon after he closed the door.”
When the shot was heard, the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office assembled a SWAT team, which broke into the room and found Jagdeep Singh dead from a single gunshot wound, Craft said.
Detectives believe Jagdeep Singh used the same gun to shoot his cousin , Craft said.
Butler County Sheriff Richard Jones praised detectives for their fast work in bringing closure to a “horrific crime.”
Craft said he “feels so badly” for the children of the victim who witnessed the shooting.
