The work is part of millions of dollars of work in and around the shopping center.
Crews have removed the center atrium of Town & Country, which will soon be home to T.J. Maxx.
“We’re in phase one of our (three-phase) construction process. We are doing the outside façade of Town & Country as well as parking lot renovations,” Wyatt said.
Façade updates on the western portion of the building, which includes Stein Mart and Jos. A. Bank, are nearly complete. Renovations began this past spring on the shopping center, which is owned by Columbus-based CASTO and its partner Skilken.
The inside of the mall will be updated and crews will add a breezeway near the Buffalo Wild Wings.
“We want people to walk over and enjoy spending time with their families,” Wyatt said.
The improvements are welcomed by the city of Kettering, which recently completed a more than $1 million streetscape project around the shopping center. The project, which was partially funded by grants, included adding sidewalks, street lighting and improving the roads.
“Being proactive in the infrastructure allows people to see that the city of Kettering is committed to maintaining its assets and also committed to providing services to both the commercial and residential components of our community,” Schwieterman said. “I think, again, the city led in that revitalization. Town & Country felt, ‘The city’s making the investment. We can make the investment.’”
Construction on Town & Country Shopping Center is expected to be completed by fall 2016.
Wyatt said the Village Shops, located behind the shopping center, will undergo renovations after that. She said a cost has not been determined since the project has not yet been opened to bids.
“By the time construction is done (in) 2016, we will be completely full, so we already have new tenants looking to come in,” Wyatt said.
The city will continue to look at ways to encourage redevelopment, Schwieterman said.
“It’s an ongoing effort,” he explained. “I think it certainly will continue each year as we plan out our capital improvement projects.”
