Newberry became the system program manager of the Wright-Patterson-based KC-46 Pegasus aerial refueling tanker program in 2016. The Air Force awarded Boeing a $2.9 billion contract in September for the production of another lot of KC-46 tankers.

The promotion to brigadier general is a lengthy process. A brigadier general is a one-star general officer rank of the Air Force. It is above a colonel and below major general.
