Two injured when car strikes tree on Stroop

KETTERING – Two people were injured when their vehicle struck a tree on E. Stroop Road Tuesday evening.

Eastbound Stroop was closed for about an hour near the intersection with Mengel Drive after the driver of a silver car lost control for an unknown reason around 6:15 p.m.

The male driver and a female passenger were transported to the hospital by ambulance. The passenger side of the car was heavily damaged and the woman had to be cut out of the car by firefighters. Both victims injuries were believed to be non-life-threatening.

Kettering police Sgt. Craig Moore said there are conflicting reports from witnesses as to whether or not another car cut off the driver of the silver car, causing him to swerve.

Angela Hale of Kettering said she was driving behind the car and didn’t see anybody hit or cut off the driver. She said the car suddenly swerved from the left lane across the right lane and into the grass. She said after it struck the tree it spun around and came to a stop facing towards her.

“I couldn’t understand what would make someone drive off the road like that,” she said.

She said she ran up to try and help the passenger, but couldn’t get the car’s door open, cutting her finger when she tried to pry it open.

She indicated the woman may have suffered injuries to her legs, which were pinned under the dashboard.
