The school currently offers a foundation course in dental assisting, but the new program will provide a “much more involved” education in the field, said Monica Marsh, principal of the D. Russel Lee Career Center.
“This will be an in-depth study,” Marsh said. “It’s a much more focused program for students who may want to go into dental (work).”
The dental program is housed in a new state-of-the-art lab, which was custom built for dental health education, according to Butler Tech. The lab includes all the tools and materials that are in a modern dentist’s office, including four operatories that are fully equipped for work from cleaning procedures to oral surgery and several X-ray machines.
Marsh said the program will accept at least 25 students. Applications are being accepted, and those interested can contact Marsh by phone at (513) 645-8270 or by e-mail at marshm@butlertech.org. Students can also talk to their school counselors for more information.
“We’re very excited. We always love to be able to add new courses that will be of benefit to the kids,” Marsh said.
Butler Tech serves students from 10 school districts in Butler and Hamilton counties, as well as adults.
