UPDATED: These restaurants announced their reopenings this week

A restaurant that specializes in noodle dishes from northern China is now open at 2801 S. Dixie Drive in Kettering. Kung Fu Noodle is located on the north end of a building that once held the Colony Club. Kung Fu Noodle opened “softly” in mid-January and is still serving a “trial operation menu,” with a permanent menu in the works in the weeks ahead. But even the trial menu is extensive, featuring appetizers such as roasted lamb skewer, dumplings, pot stickers and “Dandan Noodle,” consisting of thin vermicelli-style noodles with stir-fried ground pork, topped with spicy garlic sauce and green onion. The trickle of Dayton-area restaurants deciding to reopen for carryout has swelled to a rising tide, with several high-profile eateries firing up their ovens, flat-top grills and woks in recent days, or planning to do so shortly.

The most recent restaurant to let us know of its reopening is the Which Wich restaurant in the Cornerstone of Centerville development, which is now serving carryout effective today, May 1. Hours are 11 a.m. to 7  p.m. daily, and online ordering is preferred to help with social distancing, according to Vivek Patel, the store’s franchise owner. The deli-style restaurant is located at 5409 Cornerstone North Blvd.

Gov. Mike DeWine and state health officials have not yet set a timeline for restaurants and pubs to fully reopen for dine-in services, but carryout, delivery and curbside service are still permitted under the statewide shelter-at-home order. And the governor announced earlier this week he is setting up a panel of restaurant owners and health experts to explore how to reopen dining rooms safely as the state restarts its economy sabotaged by the ongoing coronavirus pandemic.

Local dining establishments that have been shuttered for weeks are anxious to at least reopen their kitchens as a dress rehearsal of sorts for a broader reopening, as well as to generate at least some income for themselves and their employees.
