Vandalia Civil Service board to review applicant list for police jobs

VANDALIA – The Vandalia Civil Service is schedule to meet today to discuss and certify the revised list of possible applicants to fill vacant police positions.

In September, Vandalia advertised the need for police officers. Applicants were required to be 21 years of age, has specific certifications, and be residents of specific surrounding counties. Roughly 50 applications were received.

With applications now selected and sorted, a list of qualified applicants has been assembled, narrowed down to 16 names. The list is presented to the civil service board which will certify that the applicants on the list meet the minimum requirements set forth in the original advertisement.

After the list is certified, the list will be kept to fill any vacancies that the Vandalia Police Department experiences within the next year. The standard hiring process will continue as usual, consisting of multiple interviews, assessments, background check, and drug screening.

The meeting is at 4:30 p.m. at the Vandalia Municipal Building, 333 James E. Bohanan Dr.
