A local swimming pool has received an upgrade in time for this season’s opening.

Workers replaced the cement slab at the front entrance of the Cassel Hills Swimming Pool in Vandalia.

The new entrance improves handicap accessibility from the parking lot to the front door.

The pool had ADA accessible entrances from the street/sidewalk, but the new work is in a more convenient location, according to Rich Hopkins, communications manager for Vandalia.

The pool opened in the 1970s and had not received much attention since then. The aging cement needed a replacement.

The project cost just less than $12,000 and the funds came from the 2018 Capital Improvement Plan.

The pool opens this Saturday for the summer season with general hours of 11:30 a.m. to 7:30 p.m. from June 1 to Aug. 18. Hours may vary if swim meets occur and on some weekends.

Daily admission includes children four years and younger free, five to 61 years are $5 and 62 years or older are $4.

Residents and non-residents can still chose to purchase passes at costs that can be found on the city's website.

Cassel Hills has a local eatery running the concession stand. Christy’s Pizza will offer pizza, soft-serve ice cream and other standard concession food available for purchase.

The pool is also available for rent from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. from Fridays through Sundays.

Residents and non-residents with questions about the pool can visit the pool's website or contact the pool at 937-898-2123.
