Learn the foundations of the “Olympic style clean” at Wright Field Fitness Center. The clean is an exercise widely used in strength training and is described as a lift in which the barbell is raised from the floor and brought shoulder level in one motion while entering a squat position. This new class is open to all skill levels. Classes are Wednesday nights from April 17 to May 15 5:30 to 6:30 p.m.
Get ready for a real power lunch with a mid-day bike ride to Second Street Market followed by lunch. This event is open to anyone with Wright-Patterson Air Force Base access and begins at the Wright-Field Fitness Center. Participants must supply their own bike and personal protective equipment. Wright Field Fitness Center invites you to begin your journey to the Air Force Marathon with the Buildup. Runners can participate in a 10K on June 15 for $20, a 15K on July 20 for $30; and a half marathon on Aug. 17 for $40 or attend all three for $75. The races start at 7 a.m. at Bass Lake. Armed Forces Sports provides several options for athletes to compete on a national level with deadlines quickly approaching. The 2019 Armed Forces Trial Camp for Men’s Rugby will be held at JBSA-Lackland, Texas, June 12-23. Applications for coaching staff are due by April 22 and for athletes on April 29. The Armed Forces Triathlon Team is accepting applications through April 26 for coaching staff and May 3 for athletes. The triathlon will be held June 19-23 in NB Ventura County, California. Don’t miss out on these incredible opportunities to prove your skills and compete at an armed forces championship.
Fitness is extremely important for youth growth and development, and Wright-Patterson Youth Sports has a lot to offer. For baseball aficionados, Youth T-Ball & Coach Pitch registration is ongoing with the season beginning in May and games on weekdays and Saturdays. Or maybe try your luck at the Pitch-Hit & Run Competition. Sign up for the practice that is 6 to 7:30 p.m. April 17 at the baseball field on Chapel Lane.
The Wright-Patterson Youth Sports Program has an ongoing running club every Tuesday and Thursday from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Once you’ve completed your training, join the world’s largest children’s running event, America’s Kids Run and Adult 5K, May 18 at 9 a.m. Registration begins April 15 and ends May 18. Visit the Wright-Patterson Tennis Club, the only one in the military. It offers a wide variety of activities. Learn the basics of tennis every Saturday. Youth classes start at 9 a.m. for children 5 to 9 years old, 10 a.m. for 10 to 14 years old, and 11 a.m. for 15 to 18 years old. Adult beginner classes are available Mondays and Tuesdays at 5 p.m. For a high energy work out, Cardio Tennis classes are offered on Mondays at 6 p.m., and Wednesdays at 5:30 p.m. All classes are just $12 for members and $15 for all others.
