Weiler Welding granted $100K for new facility

Longtime local company to merge 2 plants into 1.

MORAINE — Weiler Welding, a business started in a Dayton garage in 1920, is planning to move about 25 jobs from its Dayton office to a new facility in Moraine.

On Thursday, Moraine City Council approved a resolution establishing an agreement with Weiler to receive $100,000 in Economic Development/Government Equity funds to help finance construction of a $2 million facility on Sandridge Road, consolidating operations on Main Street in Moraine and East Second Street in Dayton, according to Moraine officials and records.

Weiler proposes to move 23 to 25 workers from an office on Main, across from Moraine City Hall, and 20 to 25 workers at its Dayton office, into a 30,000 square-foot building on Sandridge, officials said.

The $100,000 ED/GE grant was approved about 18 months ago by county officials, according to Mike Davis, economic development director in Moraine. Final approval by the Council was delayed while Weiler completed negotiations for the Sandridge site, Davis said.

“Some of this is moving ahead finally,” he said before the meeting.

The company, which sells a wide range of products for welding as well as a variety of industrial and medical gases, began in a garage on Valley Street. It now has offices in Springfield, Fairfield and Piqua, according to the company website.

Weiler officials declined comment.
