The Wright-Patterson Air Force Base Chapel Community has formed a wellness ministry called God’s Property Fitness Group that meets from 6 to 7 p.m. every Wednesday and the first, fourth and fifth Mondays of the month in the Prairies Chapel, 682 Chapel Lane.

The group’s mission is to maintain a healthy lifestyle as an act of worship. Members participate in various educational, physical and nutritional activities.

“The chapel has so many programs, but we’ve never had a program that addresses (physical) health,” said Linda Greaves, God’s Property Fitness Group program lead. “Most of us in the church are retired, so we want to keep our health up.”

“Sometimes when you’re exercising by yourself you don’t push yourself,” added Anita Jones, a military retiree and participant since the ministry launched.

Every meeting the group does aerobic exercises using the DVD series “The Miracle Miles” with Leslie Sansone. On the first Wednesday of the month, the ministry invites in-person instructor Cynthia Reynolds, who teaches at The Studio Fitness in Vandalia, to lead line dancing at 5:30 p.m. The fourth Wednesday of each month is dedicated to strength training exercises, led by Wright-Patterson AFB fitness center instructor Carl Scott.

God’s Property Fitness Group also holds seminars and weight challenges throughout the year.

“It’s a low-impact workout,” said Ben Butler, another member. “I started out being able to walk one mile, and now I’ve moved into strength-training exercises, and I’m walking four miles.”

Terrence and Labertha Williams, both military retirees, have joined the ministry as a married couple. Their involvement in the group has motivated them to eat healthy and keep each other accountable.

The group members emphasized that the ministry does not only produce physical results, but relational and spiritual benefits, too. The program focuses on accountability, building relationships and praying for one another.

God’s Property Fitness Group welcomes anyone who wants to join.

“Everything is free,” said Greaves. “You can just come as you are.”
