West Carrollton Doggie Dive Splash Festival in 3 weeks

WEST CARROLLTON — Dogs will get a chance to swim at Wilson Park Pool during West Carrollton’s Doggie Dive Splash Festival, before the pool closes for the season.

This is the second year for the event, which runs 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., Sept. 12. The pool closes to the public on Labor Day, Sept. 7.

“We had a great turnout and perfect weather last year,” said Alicia Norton, parks and recreation department secretary and event coordinator. “Hopefully, this year will be even better.”

Admission is $5 per family, and a portion of the proceeds will benefit local dog rescue organizations, including the Humane Society of Greater Dayton and Luv4K9’s.

The first 100 dogs will receive a free goody bag.

Twin Maples Veterinary Clinic sponsors the event, and the Dayton Emergency Vet Clinic is a co-sponsor.

In addition to swimming, there will be dog contests, such as a tennis ball dive, best costume, best swimsuit, and a pet-owner look alike competition.

“It’s really a great recreational opportunity for families before the pool is drained for the year,” said Christian Mattingly, parks and recreation director.

Several dog rescue organizations, such as Luv4K9’s, Ohio Pug Rescue, Robyn’s Nest and the Humane Society will bring dogs available for adoption.

Those groups will have a parade during the festival of dogs available for adoption in what’s called a mutt-strut.

There will be concessions at the festival, and a pet micro-chipping service will be available at a cost of $10.

The festival also will include exhibits of other pet-related services, such as a photography studio, pet sitting, dog washing and natural pet foods.

Owners should bring their dogs on non-retractable leashes and leave at home female dogs in heat.

“With as many dogs as we had in attendance last year, we really had no problems with them fighting or being aggressive,” Norton said.
