West Carrollton fire department plans restructure

West Carrollton has plans to restructure its fire department as it struggles to recruit trained staff.

Fire Chief Chris Barnett said the move comes as “”we are getting to the breaking point” that may result in the need to temporarily “brown out” a station.

“And that obviously doesn’t work when it comes to emergency situations,” he said.

West Carrollton has lost 11 part-time employees in the past year to full-time employment opportunities in other communities, and Barnett has received notification that as many as five more might leave in the next month.
