WHIO-TV takes home Emmy awards

WHIO-TV won three Emmy awards Saturday night for the 53rd annual Ohio Valley Regional Emmy Awards in Lawrenceburg, Indiana.

Storm Center 7 “Surviving the Storm” took the top prize in the weather category during the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences Ohio Valley Chapter award ceremony. Team members included Becky Grimes, Byron Stirsman, Eric Elwell, McCall Vrydaghs, Kirstie Zontini, Brett Collar and Carrieann Marit.

Anchor James Brown and videographer Byron Stirsman won an Emmy in the human interest category for “Making a Difference 'Wooden Toys.’ ”

Producer Kristi Derocher also took home an Emmy for a politics/government program, “News Center 7 Presents: Election 2016.”

In all, WHIO-TV earned six nominations, with three Emmy wins.
