Wright-Patterson Air Force Base temporarily reopened Gate 15A July 6 due to a two-week bridge repair project on State Route 844 that was scheduled to begin the same day.

While the ramp is closed, Wright-Patterson AFB Gate 15A, from S.R. 844, will be open Monday through Friday from 6 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.; the main gate will also remain open, said Maj. Julie Roloson, 88th Security Forces Squadron commander.

The Ohio Department of Transportation will also place a portable message sign on I-675 to alert base traffic that Gate 15A will be open.

Although commuters may possibly encounter single-lane restrictions and detours, they can still access the main gate using the exit on S.R. 844 prior to Col. Glenn Highway.

“Single-lane restrictions will be in effect on S.R. 844 North at the overpass, with the northbound right lane on S.R. 844 closed for seven days beginning July 6, followed by the left lane, which will then be closed for seven days beginning July 13,” according to the ODOT website.

The website also notes that those using S.R. 844 will be detoured using three roads until the construction is complete: University Drive, Col. Glenn Highway and West Dayton-Yellow Springs Road.

Roloson suggests that the commuters who use Col. Glenn Highway follow the highway to the traffic circle, turn onto Kauffman Avenue after entering it and then turn left at Dayton-Yellow Springs Road onto S.R. 444 to access the main base.
