The group is attempting to work with Xenia City Council and other community leaders in securing the building for what many in the area see as an unaddressed problem in the community.
"We have people all the time tell us, really we have homeless people here in town? I never see them, and we tell them about the people we've had sleeping under the bridge by our office and they're like flabbergasted,” said Dan Jordan, President of Bridges of Hope.
There are no shelters for single people in Greene County and a local church opens its doors in emergencies allowing in around 30 people a night.
Leaders at Bridges of Hope say they have the support of local police, firefighters and many community members.
The non-profit intends to meet with members of the Xenia City Council Thursday to further discuss the needs for a homeless shelter and how the school could fit their needs.
