“Kids can take part in one or more camps,” she said. “We do have campers who come for more than one week, and some come for three or four.”
Six of the eight camps are for kids ages 5 to 12, and two — Nature Buds and Beneath Our Feet — are for ages 3 to 9.
Four camps already have been held, and four remain.
Zach Dixon, 11, of Centerville took part in the Walk on the Wild Side camp last week. He was among the many kids who listed fishing for crawdads as his favorite part of camp.
“I just don’t like picking them up with my hands,” he said.
Tipp City resident Terrah Bruner, 10, surrounded by kids being pinched by tiny claws, said she learned that you have to put a net behind the crawdads and scare them backward.
Terrah’s sister, Tasha — who also is 10 but younger than her sister by nine months — agreed with Zach about the joy of finding crawdads.
But Terrah said: “I like Capture the Flag.”
Marks said playing in the creek is popular among all the campers, as is the Take to the Sky program that will start Monday, July 19. Take to the Sky is about flying insects and birds.
Each camp is offered for a half-day ($55 per week for residents, $85 for nonresidents) or a full day ($110/$170).
Other upcoming camps include Beneath Our Feet, Slugs n’ Bugs and The Last Hurrah, which is full.
