Two Republicans have filed to run for Montgomery County Clerk of Courts now held by Russ Joseph, a Democrat who was named to the position by Democrats in November after the retirement of Greg Brush.

Ryan Colvin of Miamisburg and Mike Foley of Oakwood, both Republicans, turned in petitions by Wednesday’s deadline. If their petitions are certified later this month, it would set up contested May 8 primary for the Republicans.

Joseph, the current office-holder, is the only Democrat to file for the election.

Though Brush’s term would not have ended until 2020, a state law required an election this year due to his departure.
