Mother Reveals Details Leading To Fatal Fire

Investigators said grim and disturbing details were released Tuesday morning about a fire in West Carrollton that killed two children last Thursday.

In statements made by Heather Silverman, 24, to officers, police said, Silverman admitted that she set the fire in the bathroom and closed the door with her two children inside.

According to the Dayton Daily News, "Silverman disconnected the smoke detectors in her home and then placed gas-soaked rags around a candle on the floor of her bathroom."

According to an affidavit, “Silverman shut the door and kicked the candle over onto the rags to ignite the fire. The affidavit went on to say that the fire got out of control and that Silverman opened the door to the sound of her son yelling.”

Silverman is being held in the Montgomery County Jail charged with murder and aggravated arson. Her bond is set at $1 million.

The children's father, Doron Silverman, is also behind bars, accused of rape. His bond was set at $500,000.
