One of the finalists is Timothy Black, a magistrate judge for the U.S. District Court for the Southern District.
The other finalist is Jeffery Hopkins, a judge for the U.S. Bankruptcy Court in the Southern District of Ohio.
After that, Brown will offer his recommendation to President Barack Obama, Brown’s spokeswoman, Meghan Dubyak, said.
The three finalists were recommended by a bipartisan commission with members appointed by Brown and Sen. George Voinovich, R-Ohio.
The nominee will replace Judge Sandra Beckwith, who has decided to move to senior status, which is a quasi-retirement role.
The southern district serves Cincinnati, Dayton and Columbus. Appointments to the federal bench are for life.
“I’m just honored to be considered by the senator for that position. My focus will continue on being the best possible judge on the Common Pleas bench,” Wiseman, a former Dayton city commissioner, said Thursday.
“I am fully cognizant of the tremendous responsibilities a district judge has and would look forward to assuming those responsibilities if so honored.”
