One DUI Arrest In Shelby County Sobriety Checkpoint

One driver was arrested for driving under the influence of alcohol Saturday night as a sobriety checkpoint was conducted in Sidney on State Route 47, which is West Michigan Avenue.

A total of 430 vehicles passed through the checkpoint from both directions between 9:30 p.m. and 3 a.m., troopers said.

State Highway Patrol troopers assigned to the Piqua Patrol Post, Shelby County deputies and Sidney police staffed the checkpoint.

The checkpoint, funded by fines from impaired drivers and other federal funding, is planned to deter and intercept impaired drivers.

If you plan to consume alcohol, designate a driver or make other travel arrangements before you drink, warned authorities.

"Don't let another life be lost for the senseless and selfish act of getting behind the wheel impaired," said Lt. Bill Peck, commander of the Piqua Patrol Post.
