Did you watch the evolution-creationism debate?

TODAY’S MODERATOR

So, the evolution-vs.-creationism debate has come and gone, as Bill “Science Guy” Nye went toe to toe this week with Ken Ham of the Kentucky Creation Museum. Seems most folks thought the guy they agreed with “won,” which is to be expected.

An interesting piece I found was by Michael Schulson at the Daily Beast, a Nye supporter who felt he fumbled: “Ham had nothing to lose. When you exist on the cultural fringe and make your living by antagonizing established authority, there’s no form of media attention you don’t love. All Ham had to do was sit still, sound vaguely professional, and pander occasionally to his base. Sure, what Ham was saying made absolutely no scientific sense. But debate is a format of impressions, not facts. Ham sounded like a reasonable human being, loosely speaking, and that’s what mattered. Nye, meanwhile, sounded like a clueless geek, even if his points were scientifically valid.”
