Following fast-changing news in the Ukraine

TODAY’S MODERATOR

And all the sudden, we’re worried about Russia again.

Vladimir Putin’s deployment of troops into the Crimean area of the Ukraine has world leaders on edge, and the rest of us keeping track of a tense, fast-changing and complex story. In some ways, Russia’s move seems like something more people should’ve seen coming — which doesn’t necessarily make the rest of the world’s response to it any simpler.

As the White House and Congress consider a variety of possible sanctions against Russia, it’s easy to foresee plenty of other complications and questions coming from all this, from the future of NATO, to the possibility of a new kind of cold war, to the volatility of energy prices and world markets. More than a few people are wondering how the United States can claim the moral high ground in an era when we’ve sent troops and drones into numerous counties in recent years.
