The Meitivs have stated that they adhere to the philosophy of “free-range” parenting and have trained their children to walk alone by themselves, first around the block, then to nearby destinations before allowing them to walk a mile from a park back to their home.
In reaction to the CPS finding, the mother, Danielle Meitiv, wrote Slate writer Hanna Rosin, “teaching independence clearly IS a crime.”
