Snapchat enters politics

Snapchat, a social media application that allows users to send videos, photos and other visuals to a select audience, is getting into the business of covering politics, as reported by the New York Times on Friday.

The messaging system has more than 100 million users, mostly teenagers and millennials.

Writes the Times: “Their mission is to reinvent mobile storytelling through the most compelling and important story of the year — the presidential election — and they are already finding an audience, with more than one million viewers on every political story that they have produced.”

The presidential candidate who is attracting the largest following on Snapchat is Democratic candidate Vermont Sen. Bernie Sanders, a late adopter of the social media tool.
