Part of C-17 Globemaster III arriving at WPAFB today

A portion of a C-17 Globemaster III trainer is arriving at Wright Patterson Air Force Base today.

Today, a piece of the C-17 departed north of Terre Haute, Ind. and is expected to arrive at the base Tuesday afternoon.

The load is traveling from eastbound Interstate 70 to southbound Interstate 675. The load will then go from Route 444 to Kauffman Road and make a final turn onto Skyline Drive at the base.

The journey started at Joint Base in San Antonio Texas.

Parts of the plane will be reassembled at the Air Force School of Aerospace Medicine to train future military medical flight crews who tend to wounded patients on aeromedical evacuation flights around the world.

The trainer was once a “durability” tester at an airplane factory in Long Beach, Calif., where Boeing had assembled the C-17s.
