Pipe Bursts At Good Samaritan Hospital: Water Floods Hallway

Hundreds of gallons of water flooded a hallway at Good Samaritan Hospital late Monday night. A hospital spokesperson told Newscenter Seven that a two inch water pipe burst in a first floor hallway. The hallway is in the hospital's Seton tower and in a section currently under construction.

Dayton firefighters say hundreds of gallons of water headed toward the emergency room and also threatened to flood into some basement medical areas. They worked quickly with hospital staff to get the water and electricity turned off in the affected section of the building. They say that process took about thirty minutes.

Firefighters say they managed to keep the water out of the emergency room. Ambulance traffic was rerouted for a couple hours but resumed as normal right around midnight.

Good Samaritan hospital officials say they have a lot of damage to ceilings and drywall in the area where the pipe burst but it will not affect operations. That area will just be under construction a little longer than planned.
